Dragana Jovanović is a distinguished conductor and Associate Professor at the Department for conducting at the Faculty of Music in Belgrade.
Jovanović began her conducting career as an assistant to the renowned Serbian conductor Darinka Matić Marović, collaborating with internationally acclaimed maestros such as Zubin Mehta, Michail Jurowski, and Gabriel Feltz. Her professional engagements include conducting roles with prestigious ensembles, such as the Mixed Choir and Symphony Orchestra of the Kosta Manojlović Music School, the Faculty of Music Symphony Orchestra, the Obilić Choir, and the Serbian Radio Television Choir. She has also served as a guest professor at institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia.
From 2017 to 2022, she revitalized the Orchestra of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Serbia, leading them on a successful tour in Dubai, UAE. Her long-standing commitment to choral music is exemplified in her leadership of the Academic choir Collegium Musicum and the Mixed Choir of the Faculty of Music, with whom she has performed across Serbia and internationally, including tours in China, the United States and Europe. Under her direction, Collegium Musicum was awarded the Serbian President’s Gold Medal in 2017 for its contribution to cultural heritage and the promotion of Serbian music worldwide.
Since 2024, Jovanović is serving as the Artistic Director of the newly established Tivat Music Festival in Montenegro. The inaugural edition, focused on vocal music, was met with widespread acclaim from both audiences and critics.
Jovanović’s innovative artistic projects blend choral performance with movement, dramaturgy, and multimedia, earning accolades such as the Musica Classica Award for Best Concert in 2022. Her academic contributions include the three-volume Anthology of Serbian Music for Children’s and Women’s Choirs and numerous workshops and seminars on conducting and choral interpretation.
She is a recipient of prestigious awards, including the Predrag Milošević Prize for Conducting (2001), the Vojislav Ilić Award for Liturgical Music (2004), the Gold Badge for Cultural Contributions in Serbia (2014), and inaugural Outstanding Achievement in Music award with the name of Darinka Matić Marović (2021) with she was recognized by KotorArt.
